Established in September 2010, KACE is a consortium of organizations
and agencies dedicated to advancing civics education. KACE is an
outgrowth of the 2004 Civic Literacy Initiative of Kentucky (CLIK)
and is designed to maintain on-going promotion and coordination of
civics education advocacy and information.
|
The CLIK report and recommendations serve as a foundation for KACE endeavors. KACE is in the midst of establishing an on-going organization that will maintain the focus on improving civic education in the areas of curriculum, professional development, standards, and assessment. Upcoming plans include
- Convening a Summit on Civic Education in February 2011.
- Forming a network of educators and citizens committed to civics education that will facilitate regional conferences to promote civics across the Commonwealth.
- Creating a civics education clearing house that will link educators and resources.
- Advocating the passage of legislation that is supportive of improvement in civics education.
The ultimate goal for KACE is an informed Kentucky citizenry, effectively engaged in the democratic process.
